Investments are coming to South L.A. from “Build Back Better,” the Olympics, and other construction projects in the region. Many of these dollars have a local hire component and Pastor Shane Scott, chair of Macedonia Community Development Corporation, wants to make sure that workers in South L.A. can take advantage of these employment opportunities.
The administration wants to level the playing field, which would allow those in communities of color to obtain good-paying jobs, ascend to the middle class, and be rewarded when it comes time for promotions and other opportunities to advance. “I think we are seeing 500,000 jobs per month added to the economy on average over the last three months, and we saw some positive signs in the hospitality industry this month,” explained U.S. Labor Secretary Marty Walsh.
The 95-year-old agency offers an array of mental health resources for children, young adults and families.
These programs were created over a span of 20 years with the help of a planning grant from Youth Build USA and a $1,000,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
