Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced on Sept. 20 that a man has been charged with three counts of arson in connection with the fire that destroyed the Victory Baptist Church in South Los Angeles last week.
In response to the fire that burned Victory Baptist Church, the Office of Councilmember Curren Price will help to coordinate a task force made up of city departments to identify possible resources and services and has secured $50,000 in discretionary funds to disperse to the Victory Community Foundation to jump-start recovery efforts.
More than 100 firefighters battled a major emergency fire at Victory Baptist Church in the South Park area of Los Angeles for one hour and 40 minutes on Sunday, September 11.
The edifice of Second Baptist (SBC) was designed by renowned architect Paul Revere Williams and built in 1926. SBC is working to raise funds for structural damage to its’ balcony, located in the sanctuary.
