On Friday, September 13, the White House South Lawn transformed into a historic celebration of Black excellence, bringing together actors, authors, television personalities, journalists, writers, activists, and artists.
The 76th Annual Writers Guild Awards welcomed several Black nominees, presenters, and guests. In addition to paying homage to exemplary writing in film and television, the WGA Awards also gives accolades for composition in new media, broadcast and digital news, and promotional categories.
“Run the World” is culture and possesses its own vibe that’s never been seen before, and could only be done by creative folks of color.
The 10-episode scripted series is much bigger than just being an origin story. It begins there, of course, giving the audience a glimpse into how the Staten Island crew changed hip-hop forever. Imagine the type of vision one must hold on to—in Staten Island (not sexy Manhattan, or the gritty Bronx) to make the “impossible” — possible. It’s King Kong big!
