Community Gospel Concert Tribute Planned for Rev. Gil Fears

A tribute gospel concert is planned to honor the Rev. Gilbert ‘Gil’ Fears, host of the Edna Tatum’s Gospel Classics radio broadcast on KPFK – 90.7 FM. The concert will be held on Friday, June 9, at 7 p.m., at The Living Room of Faithful Central Bible Church, 333 West Florence Avenue in Inglewood.

Dr. Henry Jackson has enjoyed a long tenure in gospel music. Starting out in the industry decades ago, he never envisioned the heights that God would take him. But two things he did know – God came first in his life and second was his love of the genre. Empowered by those certainties, Jackson went on to launch a recording career, work with many gospel legends, write several choir standards, sing on stages around the world and collaborate with top secular artists as well. Musical Tribute Set to Salute Tony Coleman

Mount Tabor Baptist Church hosts “A Salute to Tony Coleman” on April 21, at 4 p.m., at 6614 S. Western Ave., in Los Angeles, said Pastor Ticey Brown. Dr. Henry Jackson and Mt. Tabor’s Music Ministry sponsor the event. The theme is “We Love You in 100 Ways and More.” Performers include BeBe Winans, Henry Jackson Company, Brookinaires Gospel Choir, Sherwood Sledge, Denise Williams and more.

FAME Hosts Live Recording Featuring Brookinaires Gospel Choir

The 70-member Brookinaires Gospel Choir (BGC) will record a live CD and video concert on Saturday, May 27, at 5 p.m., at the historic First AME Church (FAME), 2270 S. Harvard Blvd., in Los Angeles. The event will be directed by Dr. Henry Jackson, a leading gospel singer, songwriter and musician who has performed with musical giants such as the Rev. James Cleveland, Lou Rawls, Natalie Cole, Patti LaBelle and Aretha Franklin.
