Honoring the Life and Work of Educator Dr. Rex Fortune

Dr. Rex Fortune, who was a husband and father, an educator, author and advocate passed away on January 29, at the age of 81. He devoted his life to lifting up the most vulnerable students and closing the academic achievement gap and in doing so made a lasting impact on the lives of countless students and faculty members during his extensive career.

CAAASA Elects Vallejo Superintendent For President at Annual Conference

The California Association of African American Superintendents and Administrators (CAAASA) unanimously elected Dr. Ramona Bishop, Superintendent of Vallejo Unified School District, as its new president on Friday, March 4. She will serve in the role through early 2017. CAAASA, first founded in 1993, held its four-day annual conference last week in Sacramento. The group was created to address statewide education policy as it relates to Black students, hosted parents and student engagement sessions as well as top education experts from around the state and country to share best educational practices.
