In 2018, the stories told, talent-on-view, compelling characters, emotions expressed, and genres stretched were just amazing. It was more than enough to make viewers track films from the theaters to streaming services. Or vice versa.

Why ‘The Hate U Give’ Is Not a Black Lives Matter Movie

Some are touting ‘The Hate U Give,’ as “the first Black Lives Matter movie.” Red flags should have gone up the moment we learned that Fox, recently acquired by Disney, was behind the film with a massive public relations budget, footing the bill for hundreds of advance screenings with celebrity guests, marketing swag, and heavy media saturation – especially in Black markets.  We might also wonder about the choice to have Audrey Wells, a White screenwriter whose credits include “Under the Tuscan Sun”  and “The Truth About Cats and Dogs,” adapt an urban Black novel for the screen.

Black America Watches with Caution on the Anniversary of Charlottesville

This weekend all eyes on Charlottesville, Virginia and Washington DC., as the very vocal US president remains silent while white nationalist, KKK members and bigots prepare to march in Washington DC and commemorate the 1 year anniversary of murder and racism in Charlottesville. Wes Bellamy The Washington Post is reporting, Wes Bellamy, 31,  is a city councilor who helped push the city to remove a statue of Robert E. Lee from a downtown park. The decision to banish the statue resulted in death threats and hate mail and, in part, is what led to the white supremacists deciding on Charlottesville
