Supervsn Studio has opened at 4440 West Slauson Avenue in the Windsor Hills area of South Los Angeles.
Founded in 2019 by creative director and designer Gavin Mathieu, the company is focused on exposing the creative powerhouse within every individual.
According to Mathieu, Supervsn has and will always be known for being so much more than a fashion brand. The Supervsn universe is an LA-based collective that creates thought-provoking products, content, and experiences that inspire creativity and spark conversations.
The company’s new flagship on Slauson will be a further extension of that ethos, that allows not only the brand but the community to have a tangible and reciprocal connection in an intentional and impactful way.

Placing the store in View Park on the Slauson Corridor was intentional, as Mathieu has direct roots to the neighborhood- once living along Slauson Avenue while spending the majority of his youth a couple of miles away off of Arlington and Jefferson.
“The location was so important to us as we were scouting. My family members and friends own businesses in the area and have for decades. The block we are on has so many iconic businesses and historic restaurants, and we are honored to be in the same district,” he said.
“I carefully look for the positive younger businesses and the budding energy that they bring to make their dreams come true. I have mentored a lot of young entrepreneurs and even family members who have businesses here that are very successful,” said Carolyn Shaw, owner of CJ’s Elegance.
“The next 10 to 15 years will bring about great commercial and residential development and brands like Supervsn will be a part of that generational story of growth,” she added.
Mathieu responded, “Carolyn Shaw has been providing clothes for Black celebrities of View Park and Windsor Hills for over 50 years! She shared that she would really love to have another clothing store join her on Slauson and the rest was history.
“Carolyn is a living legend in the neighborhood, and she has tirelessly helped so many of the local businesses find their footing in the community,” noted Mathieu.
The front half of the space includes a retail component that will feature in-line Supervsn collections, in-store exclusives, STUDIO powered by Supervsn, and alternative brand-focused drops such as niche home-goods, which can be shopped for the very first time. In addition to Supervsn products, the brand is excited to welcome new brand categories into their retail arena, including coffee table books from B Magazine, novelty items from the likes of Kinto, and more.
The flagship is about 1,200 square feet and will give the community a chance to step into the Supervsn universe through various facets such as design, art, music, furniture, and everything in between.
The second half of the store, which the brand is calling ‘The Gallery,’ will feature rotating installations from different brand collaborations, local artist installations, and community programming led by The STUDIO Foundation. The brand aims to keep the Gallery fresh by featuring new artists and displaying their work on a monthly to bi-monthly basis.
In relation to interior design, Mathieu’s inspiration stems from Brutalist meets Bali meets Mid-Century Modern meets South Central; a melting pot of some of his favorite design styles. Designed by Mathieu in collaboration with Estelle Bailey-Babenzien, co-founder of Noah Clothing and owner of Dream Awake Design, the two explored all elements of the store, from custom furniture to personalized fixtures and Noguchi lighting treatments; every detail will uphold Matheiu’s creative touch.
“Consulting on the design with Gavin and the Supervsn team was really fun, they have a huge respect for the arts, excellent taste and aren’t afraid to add an element of the surreal to the design. Combining natural with the supernatural, framed with classic mid-century modern touches, makes this space very unique and alive,” Bailey-Babenzien said.
“I’m excited to see how it will continuously transform as they exhibit new concepts and ideas. It’s a place where you can always expect the unexpected, feel inspired and welcome.”
Matheiu shared that the Supervsn brand is inspired “by those who came before to uplift this neighborhood such as Nipsey Hussle’s The Marathon Store; Hilltop Coffee+ Kitchen founded by Issa Rae, Ajay Relan and Yonnie Hagos right across the street; and vastly historical staples such as Simply Wholesome and Carolyn Shaw’s CJ’s Elegance.
“The neighborhood has offered these businesses so much support. I feel so immensely honored and proud to open our store here. These businesses are all operating at a level that we strive to operate at, and we are taking this very seriously in every sense of the word,” he declared.
“It is our goal to make sure that we make Slauson proud, our community proud, and to present the brand at the highest level to support the community’s growth, and continuously elevate the prestige of that neighborhood.”
