Ava DuVernay to be honored at AMD Britannia Awards From “Selma”, “Queen Sugar”, to the up-in-coming Disney sci-fi “A Wrinkle in Time,” Ava DuVernay has solidified herself in Hollywood as a daring and innovative filmmaker. The award- winning director will be honored this fall by The British Academy of Film and Television Arts of Los Angeles. She will receive the John Schlesinger Britannia Award for Excellence in Directing presented by The Great Britain Campaign at the 2017 AMD British Academy Britannia Awards presented by American Airlines. This year’s event will take place on Friday, October 27 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. OWN examines marriage in New Docu-Series ‘Black Love’ What is the secret to making a marriage work? The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) answers this question in a new four-episode docu-series called “Black Love”. The docu-series examines the essences of love and commitment within the Black community. “Black Love” is honest, emotional and raw. The show shares love stories, while proving the notion of ‘Black Love’ still exists in the community, but isn’t easy. “Black Love” will feature power couples: Viola Davis and husband Julius Tennon, Meagan Good and DeVon Franklin, Flex Alexander and Shanice, Erica Campbell and husband/music producer Warryn Campbell, and many additional Black couples from around the country, who will share their personal stories on what it is to attain ‘Black Love.’ Created by filmmakers Codie Elaine and Tommy Oliver as well as Confluential Films, “Black Love” premieres on Tuesday, August 29 at 10 p.m. and airs regularly on Saturdays at 9 p.m. beginning September 2.
