A pedestrian was killed today in a hit-and-run that apparently occurred while two motorists were involved in a street race in
South Los Angeles, police said.
The man, who was in his 60s, was struck shortly before 4 a.m. at 92nd Street and Western Avenue and died at the scene, said Officer Tony Im of the Los Angeles Police Department.
According to the preliminary investigation, two motorists were racing northbound on Western Avenue when at least one of the vehicles hit the pedestrian as he was walking westbound across Western Avenue at 92nd Street, Im said.
Neither motorist stopped to assist the fatally injured man, whose name was not immediately released, the officer said.
Police did not release descriptions of either vehicle.
Anyone with information on the case was urged to call 877-LAPD-247.
