The Cathedral Choir of People’s Independent Church of Christ (PICC) presents its Annual Spring Concert on Sunday, April 10, at 4 p.m., in the edifice located at 5856 West Blvd., in Los Angeles.
Minister Myrna Rochelle directs the historic choir, which was established in 1915. According to Bishop Craig A. Worsham, senior pastor, the group is one of PICC’s four Sunday morning choirs, all led by Minister of Music Gwendolyn Hale.
“The greater Los Angeles community is welcome to attend this spirit-filled program featuring the talented members of the Cathedral Choir,” said Bishop Worsham. “You are sure to experience the joy of the Lord upon hearing their anointed voices.”
People’s Independent, which marked its 100th anniversary last year, was founded in 1915 by members of First A.M.E. Church. The Reverend N.P. Greggs served as the first pastor.
The church has maintained a strong community presence over the years as well as assisted developing businesses such as the Golden State Life Insurance Co. and the Liberty Building and Loan Company. In the 1950s, the Peoples Independent Federal Credit Union opened and still operates today.
Currently, the church serves as the headquarters for the Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA) – L.A. Chapter and the Musicians in Action (MIA).
