When you hear the words, “Ms. Hazel’s House,” the first thought that comes to some people’s mind is, “here stands just another ordinary house.” Not so, instead, this house is filled with unequivocal blessings derived from exemplary deeds put forth by Ms. Lanita Hamilton.

Every Christmas, Hamilton works diligently with L.A. Global Care to set into motion Ms. Hazel’s House annual giveaway. This year’s campaign, which was a toy drive, was held on December 19, at the facility.

More than 60 single men and women attended and 100 families were present. Food, toys, clothing and school supplies were provided to homeless men, women and children. According to one attendee, “It was apparent that homeless individuals entered the giveaway with a sentiment of anticipation and exited totally gratified.”

Hamilton’s efforts in the homeless movement has positioned Ms. Hazel’s House to provide reliable assistance to homeless individuals where vital support is fundamentally essential.

The name, Ms. Hazel’s House, was inspired by the work of Hamilton’s mother, Hazel, who cared for homeless and needy people in the privacy of her own home.

In 2006, Hamilton formed a partnership linking Ms. Hazel’s House Inc., with L.A. Global Care, which led to Ms. Hazel’s House overseeing all of L.A. Global Care’s emergency shelters and residential homes.

Describing their untied goal, a spokesperson said, “At L.A. Global Care and Ms. Hazel’s House, our mission is to combat homelessness by providing temporary, long-term or short-term shelter housing to those in need. We have done just that, and we continue to house individuals 24/7 in a safe caring environment.”

Many advocates battling homelessness agree that Hamilton is worthy of praise for partnering with L.A. Global Care and making this yearly giveaway a year-round event, thus affording homeless individuals an opportunity to continuously benefit.
