The members of Mount Tabor Community Missionary Baptist Church are prepared to celebrate as they join Pastor George Brown Jr. in dedicating their new church building on Sunday, February 20, at 3:15 p.m., at 13124 South San Pedro Street in Los Angeles.
The dedicatory theme is “Glorifying God for the work He has done” and the scripture Nehemiah 4:15, said Dr. Brown who added, “We are filled with great excitement and plan to cut the ribbon at 3:30 p.m. to open the doors of our new church. Our guests will be Dr. Sylvester Washington and Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. We will also have other guest Pastors who will share in this glorifying experience.”
The celebration continues on Friday, February 25 at 7 p.m., with the Los Angeles District Association of the Western Baptist State Convention. “Our speaker will be Dr. W. Edward Jenkins, Convention Moderator and pastor of the Victory Baptist Church. Also joining us are Rev. E. Plump, pastor of Mount Chapel Baptist Church, and Rev. M. Nunley, pastor of Greater Fountain of Life Baptist Church as well as other pastors from the L.A. District,” said Dr. Brown.
The dedicatory services will conclude on Sunday, February 27, with guest speaker Rev. Dr. Ricky Williams Sr., pastor of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in East Palo Alto, CA. Also participating will be Rev. D. Beard, pastor of Mount Carmel Holy Assembly Baptist Church and Rev. K.E. Cressel Sr., pastor of Greater Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church #2.
Mount Tabor Community was organized in a two bedroom house in 1956 by the late Rev. A. R. Richardson a dream. Five years later, he and his wife, Lizzie, constructed a new building.
Dr. Brown said, “Rev. Richardson had a dream for a bigger and better church and now, in 2011, his dream has now come true.”
