It’s official, the Chair of the 2024 Democratic National Convention, Minyon Moore announced on X (Twitter) that she was a part of a historic moment. U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris and Gov. Tim Walz are now certified as democratic nominees, overseen by Moore.
Moore tweeted the following message, “Today, I officially certified @kamalaharris and Gov. @Tim_Walz as our nominees. Thanks to the dedication of thousands of delegates, every voter now has the opportunity to vote for this historic ticket Nov. in 13 days, we’ll gather here in Chicago to celebrate.”
This decision joins the overflow of support, most recently seen from civic leaders like Gov. Gavin Newsom, Assembly member Lori Wilson, chairperson for the California Legislative Black Caucus and U.S. President Joe Biden.
According to Associated Press, Harris’ candidacy became official after a five-day round of online voting by Democratic National Convention delegates finished Monday night, with the party announcing just before midnight that 99% of delegates who cast ballots supported Harris. The party had long planned an early virtual roll call to assure Biden would appear on the ballot in every state. It said that it would formally confirm the vote before staging a joyful roll call at the party’s convention later this month in Chicago.
