A man was gunned down in the street in South Los Angeles today in an apparent gang-related shooting, and sheriff’s detectives were searching for the shooter.

The killing took place about 4:30 a.m. in the 1200 block of East 59th Street in an unincorporated section of Los Angeles, Deputy Trina Schrader said.

When deputies arrived at the scene they found the man lying in the middle of the street suffering from a gunshot wound, Schrader said. Paramedics were called but the victim died at the scene.

His name was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

A motive for the shooting was unclear and there’s no immediate suspect description.

Police asked anyone with information on this death to call the sheriff’s homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500. Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
