L.A. City Council President Herb Wesson recognized the Tuskegee Airmen of Los Angeles during a full presentation at a recent City Council meeting. The Tuskegee Airmen were the first black servicemen to serve as military aviators in the U.S. armed forces, flying with distinction during World War II. The success and bravery of the Tuskegee Airmen paved the way for the eventual integration of the U.S. armed forces under President Truman.
“Their service, their fight against discrimination and their work to preserve an important part of our country’s history will never be forgotten,” said Wesson.
As we celebrate the Fourth of July, Council President Wesson asks Americans to give thanks to all those who have fought for our country and continue to do so today.
