On March 28, The Kickin’ Crab at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza (BHCP) celebrated the community with an event just for the community. The smells of cajun cooking perfumed the air inside the boardwalkesque interior complete with jumbo television screens and lots of people. The Kickin’ Crab BHCP is run by owner Jan Nguyen, who is ready to bring her twist on seafood favorites.

Established in 2010, the Kickin’ Crab is literally a fusion of east meets west as Nguyen explains their cuisine.

“The Kickin’ Crab is Cajun food,” said Nguyen, who is from Louisiana who has introduced a Vietnamese twist. “We kind of mix a little bit of Asian mixed to the Louisiana—a little mix here and there.”

“We’re finally open and we just want to thank everybody for their patience and support,” said Andrew Truong, General Manager. “We hope that we will be a pivotal part of the community.”

There are currently 14 different locations with the BHCP being the most recent location. Located on Santa Rosalia Drive, the restaurant is sure to rope fans of seafood and cajun cooking in by the droves. The Crenshaw District is quickly becoming a hub for business and play, naturally the Kickin’ Crab would be right at home.

“A lot of people had impressed us to come to L.A. and [BHCP] had invited us to come up here,” said Nguyen.

“Kickin’ Crab and restaurants alike are really a part of [Capri Urban Investors, LLC] commitment to bringing interesting, diverse, more formal and interesting dining concepts to this neighborhood,” said Rachel Freeman, General Manager for Capri at BHCP.

“It’s a restaurant that the community has been excited and elated about.”

“I want to serve everybody here and I just want to welcome everyone,” said Nguyen. “I’m here to serve.”

The Kickin’ Crab is open for business and waiting for the community to come and sample their cuisine. They are located at 3767 Santa Rosalia Dr. in Los Angeles, CA 90008.
