Bass Running in California’s Newly Created 37thCongressional District That Includes Los Angeles, Culver City
Karen Bass launched her grassroots fundraising campaign today for her reelection to Congress in the newly created 37thCongressional District that includes Los Angeles and Culver City.
Karen Bass currently represents the 33rd Congressional District. The newly created 37th Congressional District which stretches westward toward Santa Monica and southward to Mar Vista mirrors Assembly District 47 that Bass represented for six years in the state legislature.
The campaign kickoff will launch with a series of grassroots fundraising efforts attended by longtime supporters and activists, as well as ongoing neighborhood meetings. In addition, there will be a series of neighborhood meetings covering issues important to the district.
Since her election to Congress, Karen Bass has continued her fight to strengthen the foster care system, introducing numerous pieces of bipartisan legislation to support foster families and youth. She is the founder and co-chair of the Foster Care Caucus and co-chair of the Adoption Caucus.
Bass successfully passed bipartisan amendments supporting housing for veterans, improving the foster care system, and combating human trafficking.
A member of the Budget and Foreign affairs committees, Karen Bass sits on the Steering and Policy Committee that determines the policy direction of the Democratic Caucus and was appointed to this position by Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). She is an Assistant Whip, selected to this role by Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD). Bass is an active member of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, recruiting and supporting Democratic candidates throughout the nation to help Democrats regain control of Congress.
A longtime community organizer and Los Angeles leader, before her election to Congress Karen Bass served as the Speaker of the California Assembly. She founded and was Executive Director of Community Coalition, a South Los Angeles-based organization mandated to improving the lives and social services of the local population.
