The Inglewood Rental Property Owners Association held their quarterly meeting at the Inglewood Library Lecture Hall on April 12. Malcolm N. Bennett, chairperson, called the meeting to order and thanked all attendees for their attendance and stated that the City of Inglewood Departments who support this organization should be acknowledged. Mr. Bennett introduced Councilman Alex Padilla from District 2 and Ralph Franklin from District 4.

Both Councilmen provided updates on issues in their respective Districts and entertained an extensive question and answer period that addressed concerns from the attendees. Updated information was provided regarding Daniel Freeman Hospital development sites, the Senior Center Development, Manchester Median Improvement Development, as well as other information of interest to all owners and residents in the City.

The Chairman introduced special guest Attorney Michael Millman, an active board member of the ACTION Apartment Association and past board members of several other apartment associations, and who is very active in landlord-tenant legislation. Attorney Millman gave a very in-depth update on AB1506 and AB1505, which would have had a very negative impact on providers of rental housing throughout the state. Mr. Millman provided information on the legislative meeting in Sacramento, that he and Mr. Bennett attended, which helped convince Assemblyman Bloom to pull AB1506.

Mr. Bennett closed out the meeting introducing and thanking Ruth A. Hayles, volunteer board member for her assistance in preparing the meeting, and who is also the General Manager of International Realty & Investments. Mr. Bennett provided updates on several other very important bills and urged attendees to get information about legislation that affects their rental housing businesses. He urged them to join the Association and encourage other rental property owners they know in the City of Inglewood to join the association.
