Homecoming Services for Arlene Kennedy
ARLENE KENNEDY, an icon in the international Tap Community and Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Universal Dance Designs and the world famous Kennedy Tap Company, died on Thursday, October 8, 2009. The company and school have produced more professional and Broadway tap dancers than any other school in Los Angeles Her students have danced with such luminaries as Savion Glover, Gregory Hines, Ben Vereen, Michael Jackson, Melba Moore, Miriam Nelson, Jason Samuels Smith, and the famed Nicholas Brothers.
She is the recipient of the “Gregory Hines Humanitarian Award”, the Lehmann Dance Award, 2009 Dance Resource Center Award and the Dance Legacy Award bestowed by the Professional Dancers Society.
Funeral services for Ms. Kennedy were held on Saturday, October 17 at 12p.m. at The Tabernacle Community Baptist, 7915 S. Broadway, Los Angeles, CA 90003. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be sent to Universal Dance Designs, 6009 W. Olympic Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90036-4403
