In another powerful demonstration of his extensive support from prominent progressive local leaders in the race for L.A. County Sheriff, LAX Police Chief Cecil Rhambo has earned an influential endorsement from Los Angeles City Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson.
Harris-Dawson released the following statement with his endorsement of Chief Rhambo:
“Chief Cecil Rhambo understands the complexities of the criminal justice system and the dire need for real reform. That’s why I’m thrilled to support Chief Rhambo for Los Angeles County Sheriff because I know he will be a leader who will bring his experience, vision, and compassion to transform the LASD.
“A proven reformer and public servant with decades of experience, I know Cecil will be the change-maker we need to end deputy gangs, embrace outside oversight including the Citizens Oversight Commission, and clean up the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department from top to bottom.”
Last week, Rhambo announced the support of the Los Angeles County Young Democrats (LACYD), Santa Clarita Valley Democrats (SCVD) and the Miracle Mile Democratic Club (MMDC).
This comes on the heels of Rhambo’s campaign last month announcing that he had raised $212,993 in the fundraising quarter ending December 31, the most of any candidate running against Sheriff Alex Villanueva during that period, and more than Villanueva raised in his entire 2018 bid for Sheriff.
Significantly, this also follows the recent announcement by the Rhambo for Sheriff campaign that it had topped over 100 endorsements, in what has become a wide-ranging coalition that spans increasingly countywide.
Rhambo’s campaign recently released a new online ad titled ”Stop This Injustice,” which draws a contrast between Rhambo and Sheriff Villanueva, highlighting the incumbent’s refusal to stop deputy gangs, secret police and corruption, along with his war against the county’s vaccine mandate, the Inspector General as well as the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.
