The Grambling University National Alumni Association, Inc. invites you to attend the 2017 National Alumni Convention to be held Thursday, July 20 – Sunday, July 23 in Los Angeles, California. GUNAA is committed to ensuring that the legacy of the great Grambling University continues to thrive and educate students at the undergraduate and graduate level producing world leaders in all professions. The GUNAA Convention Committee has worked ardently to coordinate a stellar, informative and memorable convention.
The theme this year is “Our Legacy: A Reflection of the Past, A Vision of the Future.” The goal is to unite alumni, friends, faculty and staff from across the country, who help support the Grambling University mission and goals. There will be workshops that will encourage continued growth personally and professionally along with the spirit of fraternization among alumni. The purpose is to celebrate accomplishments and build on that work to sustain the university in the future, strategize on expanding our alumni giving, increasing younger alumni participation, and increasing student recruitment. The schedule of activities and events are listed below:
Thursday, July 20th
• 12:00 noon – 5:00 pm Registration and Check-in
• 6:00 pm – 10 pm – HBCU and Divine 9 Game Night at Dodger Stadium
Join us for an exciting game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Atlanta Braves. Get your tickets to the game and ride the GSU Tiger bus to the stadium. Bus departs from the Sheraton Gateway Hotel. Open to the public/tickets required.
Friday, July 21st November 16th
• 8:15 am – 11:30 am – Opening Plenary Session
• 12:00 noon – 2:00 pm Life Membership Luncheon
Honoring outstanding life members who have made an indelible impact on the Grambling community. Dr. E. Faye Williams, Past National President will be the keynote speaker. Open to the public/tickets required.
• 2:30 pm – 5:00 pm Plenary Session II
State of the University with President Richard Gallot
• 8:00 pm – Midnight – Comedy Show and Dancing
Join us for some good laughs with the best comedians in town. Dancing will follow the comedy show. Open to the public/tickets required.
Saturday, July 22nd
• 8:30 am – 10:30 am – GUNAA Workshops
Topics will include: Effective Use of Social Media, Engaging Our Alumni, and Best Practices to Recruit, Reclaim and Retain Our Alumni.
• 10:00 am – 1:00 pm – Plenary Session III
• 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm – Day Party Celebration for Recent “Young” Graduates There will be great networking and socializing opportunities for the millennial alumni members.
• 6:30 pm – 7:00 pm – President’s Reception
Join us for a meet and greet with GSU President Richard Gallot.
• 7:00 pm – 12 midnight – Black and Gold Gala: Academy Awards Banquet Special presentations and awards recognizing significant contributions of Grambling alumni. Open to the public/tickets required.
Sunday, July 23rd
• 9:00 am – GUNAA Worship Service
Worship with the GSU Tigers at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel Los Angeles. This event is open to the public.
