With a focus on spiritually equipping African American males of all ages, the Gethsemane Christian Love Missionary Baptist Church hosted “Boys to Men on a Mission for Jesus Christ” on Sunday, July 23.
The special program, led by Bishop Byron L. Smith, Sr, pastor, and leaders of the church’s Boys to Men Ministry, featured Apostle Ron Hill, as the guest preacher. Hill, the pastor of the Love and Unity Christian Fellowship in Compton, shared a message based on Matthew 28:16-20, which details the Great Commission of Christ to believers to spread the Gospel.
Outlining the mission of Gethsemane Christian Love’s Boys to Men Ministry, Bishop Smith said, “The goal of the ministry is to cultivate an attitude of excellence in serving Christ through participation in Sunday School, prayer ministry, Bible Study, Sunday Service and community outreach, and extending respect and brotherly and sisterly love to Christ’s people.

“Our vision is to encourage our young boys and men to respect their themselves, family, church members, and individuals within the community in South Central Los Angeles,” he added.
Under Smith’s leadership, the Boys to Men Ministry plays an active role in the church’s outreach to the community. For example, the members serve free breakfast to congregants, neighbors and friends on the first Saturday of each month, erect and dismantle the twice-monthly COVID and flu vaccination clinic and accompany the pastor on regular visits to infirm parishioners.
“We are praying with and for our young boys and men to develop a thirst for a strong spiritual relationship with Christ, family and their community, by being spiritually and educationally astute, socially conscious and emotionally stable to become strong enough to lead and humble enough to follow,” said Smith, who also invited the public to worship at Gethsemane Love and participate in any of the church’s ministries.
