Founder’s Church and gospel recording artist Brent Jones will launch a free professional musical training program for youth from middle school age through high school.
“The Fire” program starts on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., on the church’s campus at 3281 W. 6th St., in Los Angeles. Jones, Grammy® and Stellar Award-nominated singer, producer, musician, and choirmaster, will instruct the classes.
Sponsored by Founder’s Community Outreach, “The Fire” will incorporate music theory, melody, movement, and voice to teach life skills through the arts. Participants in the program will also have the opportunity to participate in a vocal competition judged by industry professionals for cash prizes up to $2,500.
“Brent created a long-lasting trend in the gospel music industry with his group, the T. P. (Total Praise) Mobb, which is known for making music with electrifying beats and positive messages for youth,” said Pat Gentry, Founder’s spokesperson.
“One of the greatest benefits of having “The Fire” come to our community is the potential life-enhancing effect it will have on the youth of the Los Angeles area. In addition to the direct impact of musical training on our youth, Brent’s vision for the program will focus on building self-confidence, self-esteem and life skills that will last a lifetime,” added Gentry.
Participants in the “Fire” program will serve on performance, choreography, sales, promotion, and/or music production committees. The curriculum will also include sessions on choir and individual singing, writing and song improvisation, listening, choreography, evaluation and the vocal competition.
