Drew Child Development Corporation (Drew CDC) announced that Drew CDC alumnus, Eric Aguirre, is the new chairman of the Board of Directors.

Aguirre succeeds James Hays, who served three terms as chairman from 2013 to 2024, and who will continue to support the organization as treasurer.

An expert public and private accountant and financier, Aguirre honed his skills working at KPMG in private equity and in his own firm, Aguirre & Co. Since joining the Drew CDC board in 2021, Aguirre has been an engaged member providing leadership through the Finance, Audit, and Executive Committees while also frequently attending Drew CDC’s many community events.

A native of Lynwood, Aguirre was a young student at Drew CDC’s Ella Fitzgerald Child Care Center, graduating from the center in 1982 before going on to Lynwood High School and graduating magna cum laude from Cal State LA in 1997.

Having grown up as a Drew CDC beneficiary in the heart of the community, Aguirre has a special tie to the agency’s goals and mission and a unique understanding of the value it brings to local families. He is also the father of two – Ava, 14, and Adam, 12.

According to a spokesperson, “Drew CDC could not be prouder of how Aguirre’s example illustrates what happens when we collectively invest in our children to help them flourish and become future leaders. “

On the board, Aguirre’s input has led to direct, actionable initiatives that have created additional funding opportunities for the organization. Chairing the Finance and Audit Committees, and serving as treasurer on the Executive Committee, his accounting and business acumen have led to an overall elevation of the performance and profile of the organization. His unanimous selection by the board also illustrates the organization’s confidence in his leadership and the unified vision of the organization.

Outgoing Chair James oversaw much organizational growth including new services, such as an onsite partnership with Linc Housing as well as strengthening Drew CDC’s stewardship of public funds and overall budget. James also helped build a board composed of leaders with local connections who understand community needs

Looking forward, the board continues to seek public, nonprofit, and industry leaders with community ties whose passion will drive their support of Drew CDC’s mission and growth throughout Watts-Willowbrook, Compton, and South Los Angeles.
