Multiple reports confirmed the passing of David “Trugoy the Dove” Jolicoeur, iconic rapper from 90s rap group, De La Soul.

Rolling Stone announced the passing of David “Trugoy the Dove” Jolicoeur, one-third of the renowned rap trio De La Soul, after AllHipHop broke the news initially. He was 54. It is unknown what caused the death.

The group’s spokesman, Tony Ferguson, disclosed his passing on Sunday, however he did not specify of the cause of death or the location or time of Mr. Jolicoeur’s passing. The award-winning rapper recently voiced his battle with congestive heart disease, including in the music video for the song “Royalty Capes” by the group.

According to sources with knowledge of the circumstances, the rapper passed unexpectedly on Sunday in a hospital in Maryland.

According to TMZ, The official social media profiles for De La Soul, as well as the pages for the other two members, have not yet commented on Dave; the other two members include Kelvin Mercer (Posdnuos) and  Vincent Mason, (Maseo).

Midway through the 1980s in Long Island, New York, Jolicoeur, Kelvin “Posdnuos” Mercer, and Vincent Mason, aka DJ Maseo, created De La Soul. The group, known as hip-hop revolutionaries, took immense pleasure in defying the trend of a mainstream hip-hop culture.

Some of their top hits include “Me, Myself, and I,”(1989) and it’s still one of De La Soul’s most famous and most recognizable songs.
