Councilwoman Heather (CD 10) Hutt hosted Leimert Park Snow Night turning the park into a Winter Wonderland — Winter Huttland actually – on Dec. 20 complete with a Ferris wheel, food trucks, 360 camera booth and 100 tons of snow.
“We named it Winter Huttland and it is really nothing but fun for our children,” said Hutt. “We don’t necessarily experience different climates here in Los Angeles.
“It’s not that it’s important to not just be together in a Winter Wonderland, but to give children the experience of snow, what other people experience in the rest of the country and they’re having a really good time.
“They’re able to get in those saucers and sled down and they’re just having a ball—they’re throwing snowballs.”

Snow machines blowing “snow” in the air really made it a wonderland of snow, smiles and holiday songs as the DJ cranked out original and remixed versions. The South L.A. community showed up to have a good time with family and friends. They also shared what they like most about Christmas.
“We are here celebrating the holidays with the community,” said Genelle Brooks-Petty owner of All Chill Hip Hop Ice Cream Shop in Leimert Park. “We’re hosting food crafts in Huttville.”
Brooks-Petty continued, “My favorite thing about Christmas is reconnecting with my family in one place. Everybody getting together being loud and boisterous and joyful. It happens once a year and this is that time so, that’s my favorite thing and all of the food that everybody brings.”
“I’m bringing the kids out to have fun to enjoy the holiday spirit,” said Jeni B.
When asked what her favorite thing about Christmas was, she said, “seeing the smiles on their faces for the experiences not just the toys, but the memories.”
Jelani H. said what he liked most about Christmas was “being with family and making memories.”
He continued, “Just wanted to bring my family here to have a good time, do some Christmas-spirited activities here in the 10th district.
“I’m glad Councilwoman Heather Hutt put this together.”
Hutt arrived at Huttland in L.A. style — on a fire truck with a procession of classic cars.
“That is an organization called Hood Muscle Cars, and this is a group of men, who many of them, work for the city and the county and this is their hobby,” said Hutt.
“They take care of the cars; they bring them out for various occasions, and we had an escort with them and the fire department always participates all over the city.”
Huttland also had arts and crafts stations and local carpenters-built race car ramps for mini slot car racing. There was a station for creating your own personalized Christmas stocking, face painting and more. Hutt shared her favorite thing about Christmas.
“The joy that it brings to children,” said Hutt. “They’re not getting toys, they’re getting an experience and that’s what it’s all about — spending time with family, in your own neighborhood, it’s safe and its fun.”
