Ninth Episcopal District members of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church are convening for 2021 Mid-Winter Reporting and Joint Annual Conference.
Bishop Paul A.G. Stewart, presiding prelate of the denomination’s, will open the in-person gathering on Thursday, December 9, and continue the meeting through Saturday, December 11, at Beebe Memorial Cathedral CME Church in Oakland, CA. COVID guidelines will be followed.
The theme is “Getting Back to Basics as We Envision Our Way Forward by Developing and Maintaining Healthy Relationships.” The Rev. Dr. Charley Hames Jr. is the host pastor and the Rev. Dr. Reginald D. Walton is the host presiding elder.
The agenda includes business sessions, worship services, the Missionary Training Institute and the election of clergy and lay delegates to the 2022 General Conference of the CME Church. Also, Bishop Stewart will direct the admission of candidates for the ministry, the ordination of deacons and elders and the pastoral appointments.
Bishop Marvin F. Thomas Sr., presiding prelate of the of the Second Episcopal District, will preach at the Ordination Service and Bishop Sylvester Williams Sr., presiding prelate of the of the Third Episcopal District, will deliver the message at the Quadrennial Appreciation. The celebration will honor Bishop Stewart, Lady M. Earline Stewart and Lady Jacqueline Best.
In addition, the conference will feature sermons by the Rev. Dr. Clarence K. Health of Carter Metropolitan CME in Fort Worth, Texas; the Rev. Shelia E. Crabb of Missionary Temple CME in San Francisco, and Pastor Hames.
The CME Ninth Episcopal District is comprised of the Alaska-Pacific, Arizona-New Mexico, Oklahoma, Northern California and Southern California Regions.
