Recording artist, author and first lady Myesha Chaney will sponsor the She Won luncheon to celebrate and empower survivors of abuse.
The event is set for Sunday, April 8, at 2 p.m., at The Modern, 2801 E. Spring St., in Long Beach.
With a focus on acceptance and affirmation, the gathering aims to unite, celebrate, and empower survivors to take their rightful place in the world and thrive.
“My heart was broken after hearing so many women share the traumatic experience of being violated that I needed to do something,” said Chaney. “I wanted to create a space to acknowledge, recognize, and empower the brave women and girls that have lived through sexual abuse.”
The luncheon will award local and accomplished survivors who have made significant contributions despite their past. Also, special guest speakers and entertainment will be included. A portion of the proceeds will go toward the She Won Empowerment Camp for Girls at California State University, Long Beach in July 2018.
A native of Long Beach, Chaney is a veteran supporter of abused women. The author of “Hiding Behind the Lipstick,” she is also a popular motivational speaker that encourages women to take off the masks they show to the world and reveal their true selves.
In addition, Chaney and her husband are the spiritual leaders of Antioch Church of Long Beach and co-hosts of the talk show, “Real Life with Wayne and Myesha Chaney,” on KJLH 102.3 FM.
