Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson and his staff will launch the 2023 South L.A. Strong summer program with a pool party extravaganza on Friday, June 30, at 5:30 p.m., at the Van Ness Recreation Center, located at 5720 2nd Avenue in Los Angeles.
According to a spokesperson, “South LA’s own Earle’s on Crenshaw will be firing up the grill, serving their delectable hot dogs. Attendees can indulge in these treats while enjoying a wide array of games and water activities.”
The highlight of the evening will be a special screening of the Super Mario Brothers movie. Also, CD 8 staff will provide beach chairs and blankets for people enjoying the pool.

“Our City parks hold a special place for families to come together, create lasting memories, and forge lifelong friendships. This is possible because of the dedication of our Community Intervention Workers, the work of the Community Safety Partnership, and the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). They work tirelessly to ensure that our parks remain safe and healthy spaces where everyone can enjoy themselves,” said the spokesperson.
The pool party extravaganza kicks-off the Council District’s summer program and its campaign to promote a sense of togetherness, provide opportunities for growth, create safe spaces, and bright futures for all residents.
