Hamilton United Methodist Church observes their 114th anniversary throughout October, at 6400 S. Figueroa St., said Pastor Fredrick Johnson. Dr. Edna Burems is the anniversary chair and Dr. Thelma Eaton and Anthony Lawson are the co-chairs. The theme is “On Fire to Witness for Christ” based on Zechariah 2:5. Guest speakers include Derrick Patterson on Oct. 8, at 11 a.m.; former U.S. Rep. Diane Watson on Oct. 11, at 11 a.m.; and the Rev. Rev. Mark Nakagawa on Oct. 29, at 11 a.m. Also, a concert will be held on Oct. 29, at 3 p.m., featuring the Clara Ward Singers, Anthony Lawson, United Male Chorus of L.A., Kym Foley, Hamilton Alumni Choir and Zuri.

New Antioch Church of God in Christ hosts Praise Explosion 2017 on October 8, at 4 p.m., at 7826 S. Vermont Ave., in Los Angles, said Superintendent Jeffrey Lewis, pastor. The Pastor’s Aide sponsors the event. Nikki Potts, Kesha Ealy, Yolonda Harris Dancy, New Antioch COGIC Young Adult Choir, Sherri Allen, Elder Chrystopher J. Grundy and the Rev. First Congregational Church of Los Angeles welcomes Diana Butler Bass as guest speaker on October 15, at 3 p.m., at 540 South Commonwealth Ave., in Los Angeles, said the Rev. Dr. Gwynne Guibord, founder of The Guibord Center. Bass, the author of nine books on American Religion, will discuss finding footing within ourselves, our community and the world in light of the contentious, confusing and chaotic times of the last two years.

Church One Ministries present Gospel Comedy on October 21, at 7 p.m., at 700 E. 70th St., in Long Beach, said Bishop Todd Erving, pastor. Monty B. Sharpton will host. Performers include Kathy Westfield, Jamming Jay Lamont, Cizzle C, Rudy Moreno and the Anointed Oreos. The donation is $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Proceeds will assist The Mozell Sanders Thanksgiving Dinner, Faith Harvest Christmas Outreach and less fortunate families for the holidays.
