Beverly Hills/Hollywood NAACP hosts the ACT-SO Showcase Fundraiser on June 25, at 1 p.m., at Ward AME Church, 1175 West 25th Street in Los Angeles. The program celebrates the academic achievements of local high school students. The ticket donation is $15 in advance, $20 at the door and $10 for students with ID and children ages 5 to 12.   If attendees refer mention this Sentinel announcement, tickets are $15 at the door. Checks may be mailed to NAACP ACT-SO, P.O. Box 2349, Los Angeles, CA 90078, to be placed on a list of pre-paid attendees.

Ward AME Church observes Men and Women’s Day on June 26 at 1175 West 25th Street in Los Angeles, said Pastor John E. Cager III. At 10 a.m., church members will be honored and the Rev. Jamal Gallow will bring the message. At 3 p.m., the Memory Lane Promenade Concert takes place featuring the Don Lee White Chorale directed by Dr. James M. Calhoun of God’s Elect Gospel Singers, Madelyn Thompson of The Clara Ward Singers, Pastor N.W. Martin of New Life Institutional Baptist Church, the New Philadelphia AME Church’s Mighty Men of GOD, the Trinity Baptist Church’s Voices of Trinity and the Ward’s Men’s Chorus.


Baptist Ministers Conference of L.A. and Southern California meets on June 27, at 11 a.m., at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, 4269 S. Figueroa Street in Los Angeles. Mount Sinai Baptist Church concludes its “Tuesday Night in the Truth Summer Preaching Series” on June at 28 p.m., at 7 p.m., at 3669 W. 54th St., in Los Angeles, said Pastor George E. Hurtt. Westwood Presbyterian Church hosts a concert featuring award-winning composer Maria Newman on June 26, at 5 p.m., at 10822 Wilshire Blvd., in Los Angeles. Newman will conduct her own work, “Requiem: Missa Mortem Da Pacem” (Mass for Peace) that commemorates the death of a young child from AIDs. Soprano Christina Borgioli, mezzo-soprano Nandani Maria Sinha, tenors Adam von Almen and Larry Dulechan, and baritones Paul Cummings and Dimitri Smith will be featured with the Westwood Master Choir and Chamber Orchestra. Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels presents Relics of St. Thomas More and St. John Fisher on July 1-2, at 555 W. Temple St., in Los Angeles. The two 16th-century martyrs exemplified courage and conviction in the face of religious persecution. Archbishop José H. Gomez will welcome the relics by celebrating Mass on July 1, at 12:10 p.m., and the curator will speak from 12:50 p.m. to 2 p.m. On July 2, the relics will remain in a chapel at the Cathedral for veneration from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For information, call (213) 680-5200.
