Greater Unity Baptist Church plans its Annual Sweetheart Pancake Breakfast on Feb. 11, at 7:30 a.m., at 9719 S. Avalon Blvd., in Los Angeles, said Pastor Randy Allison, Jr. The theme is “Let Nothing Separate Us From God’s Love” based on Romans 8:38-39. The Youth Department, directed by Arlene Andrews, sponsors the event. The donation is $8.

Faithful Central Bible Church hosts “A Conversation with First Lady Togetta Ulmer and Mrs. Cookie Johnson” on Feb. 11, at 9 a.m., at 400 W. Florence Ave., in Inglewood, said Bishop Kenneth C. Ulmer, pastor. Johnson will discuss and sign copies of her memoir, “Believing in Magic.” The public is invited to attend.

First United Methodist Church plans a Valentine dinner, dance and concert on Feb. 11, at 6 p.m., in the Fentry Fellowship Hall, 1025 S. Long Beach Blvd., in Compton, said the Rev. Dr. Arnetha E. Inge, pastor. The church’s United Methodist Men sponsors the event. The theme is “Night Whispers.” Vocalist Adrin Davis will perform. The donation is $30. First AME Church hosts the City of L.A. Opening Worship Service for African American Heritage Month on Feb. 12, at 10 a.m., at 2270 S. Harvard Blvd., in Los Angeles, said Pastor J. Edgar Boyd. U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris, L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti, elected officials and civic leaders will participate.

First Congregational Church presents a special “Organ Spectacular” on Feb. 12, at 3 p.m., at 540 S. Commonwealth Ave., in Los Angeles. The free event features organists Christopher Bull, David Goode, Jaebon Hwang and Frederick Swann who will play the music of Healey Willan, Franz Liszt, and J.S Bach, including his “Prelude and Fugue in Eb minor.” For information, call Karina Fernandez at (213) 355-5237.

Curry Temple CME Church celebrates “Friends and Family Sunday,” on Feb. 19, at 3 p.m., at 322 W. Rosecrans Ave., in Compton, said Pastor Joseph C. The Guibord Center presents “Beyond the Veil: Life After Death” on Feb. 25, at 10 a.m., at St. John’s Cathedral, 514 W. Adams Blvd., in Los Angeles. The Rev. Dr. Gwynne Guibord will moderate the two panel discussions. The panelists are the Very Rev.
