The Clippers battled back on Sunday from a 17 point deficient to beat the Cavs, 108-78, liked they owned them. In fact they did! Blake Griffin (23), Jamal Crawford (13) and DeAndre Jordan (13) knocked the Cavs off the court like they owned them! They did! And the beat continues! Madison Keys competed in the Indian Wells Tennis Open. Donald Young played in the men’s division. Young won his third match vs. Lucas Pouille, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. His next scheduled match was vs. Nishikor. Young says: “It’s exciting to come through and be playing consistently, at least at the start of the year, and just to beat back-to-back opponents Stefan Kozlov and Sam Querrey.” And the beat continues! Mount St Mary’s Junior Robinson is the smallest player in Division 1. He scored 27 points to lead the Mountaineers to victory in the opener, 67-66 win over the New Orleans Privateers in the first game of the NCAA tournament at Dayton, Ohio. The Cleveland Cavaliers came to the Staples Center in the last ten days or so to play the Clippers and the L.A. Lakers. I will take that back! Cavs was in the city with all but their starters on display. Blake Griffin declared: “It’s a different game without LeBron and Kyrie and Kevin playing…We are not going to pretend like it’s not.” The Cavs headed by their leader, LeBron James et al were only observers. Comments: In my estimation players shouldn’t play when they are sick, injured or for some personal reasons. Some experts claim missing games will cost LeBron James the MVP! It could! Mrs. Margaret Hernandez and her husband Charles Taylor have been suffering a lifetime since their son Rico Harris has been missing from their Alhambra home since October 2014. If anybody knows anything about where he might be please call the LAPD. Harris mother says: “This is a pain that goes down in your core. It’s like you’re on a merry go round and you can’t get off…….He could be alive. May be he’s not. I don’t know what the truth is……People don’t just vanish.” The Russell Westbrook needed 13 triple doubles to break Oscar Robertson’s all-time record. Westbrook needs only 34 to break the Thunder’s standard. It’s going to be hard for not to vote for Westbrook for NBA MVP honors. Reason: He impresses me more than on his all-around triple-double play. Westbrook should move ahead of Oscar Robertson as the all-time single season standard bearer. When Oscar Robertson was flipping basketballs into baskets in the late 50s there weren’t as many black people sitting in the pews and pulpits of White churches as there are on Sunday morning. Nor were there as many Blacks playing basketball in high schools, colleges or in the pros. Racism in the LAPD put O.J. Simpson in prison on a 33-year alleged murder rap. And that’s what kept him there until October or longer. Sports Illustrated wrote as much. And the beat continues! Tiger Woods is praying he will be able to play in the Masters which has won six nine times. Woods has won 14 majors and he just can’t seem to win No. 15. Looking back Tiger says he was never afraid of his dad Earl Woods, but he was afraid of his mother Kultida. He still is. Tiger says she is the A-1 enforcer. Tiger is 41 and he’s the youngest player to win the Masters. And the beat continues! Coach Andy Enfield’s USC Trojans were being considered as a NCAA Playoff Cinderella candidate after knocking off Providence, 75-71, With Nick Rakocevic, Chimezie Metu and Bennie Boatwright, Jordan McLaughlin, Elijah Stewart, De’Anthony Melton, Kurts Karis, et al . . But, the Trojans fell to Baylor 82-78 in the second round. Mike Hopkins is the new head basketball coach at the University of Washington. Hopkins replaces Lorenzo Romar, a 15-year man! For the record, UCLA and Kentucky Friday night in a Sweet 16 clash in Memphis. The winner should wind up as National Champions. My pick is UCLA! Duke and Cincinnati missed the Sweet 16 as UCLA and Kentucky moved on toward the championship. There was at least one bright spot in the L.A. Lakers’ 125-120 loss to LeBron James and his Cavs. D’Angelo Russell scored a 40-point career high. Russell and the Cavs each hit the 40-point mark. And the beat continues! Kansas’s Josh Jackson could be the best NBA recruit in the NCAA Playoffs. Going into a Sweet 16 round, Jackson was averaging 16 points and 7.1 rebounds per outing. There are a lot of pickers who will select Josh Jackson no matter if the sun doesn’t rise tomorrow. Gale Sayers was one of the greatest Chicago Bears running backs of all time, is suffering from dementia. Sayers’ wife Ardythe announced his dementia illness this week. Sayers’ wife blamed his football career for his condition. Sayers is 73. After Sunday night’s 79-67 victory over Cincinnati the UCLA Bruins Lonzo Ball (18 pts), Bryce Alford (16 pts), JF Leaf (11 pts). Ike Anigbogu (6 pts) and Hamilton (10 pts) will need to continue with a real balanced effort. The Ball Brothers of Chino Hills and UCLA have a real Motor Mouth supporter in their dad LaVar Ball. Listen to one of old dad’s many quotes in publications, TV, radio, social media et al. The best known dad of High School basketball players is LaVar Ball. the reason is for comments like this: “You talking about a dad, me, talking too much? I know some of these dads are not even there. Alcoholics, drunks and waiting for their sons to make it.” Share this post Share Cleveland CavaliersDukeGaye SayersJosh JacksonJunior RobinsonKansasKentuckyLonzo BallLos Angeles ClippersMarch MadnessNBANBA MVPNCAANCAA TournamentOKCOscar RobertsonRico HarrisRussell WestbrookTiger WoodsUCLA basketballUSC basketball
