On May 7, Bird L.A. Day guides the community back to nature. This is a project presented by the Audubon network in greater Los Angeles, which includes Los Angeles Audubon, other local Audubon chapters, plus many nature-based organizations who are also participating – there will be multiple events scheduled across Los Angeles.
Bird L.A. Day brings together people of all ages to celebrate nature in Los Angeles with a day of events revolving around, you guessed it, birds!
Here are the LA Audubon events:
Ballona Wetlands salt water marsh – 9am – noon
First Saturdays event:
Bird walk and exploration of the wetlands with binoculars, microscopes, and spotting scopes on site for public use. Ballona Wetlands salt water marsh is locate in Playa Del Rey. You may enter through the gate located in the northeast corner of the parking lot behind Alkawater/Gordon’s Market, in the 300 block of Culver Blvd. in Playa del Rey.
Ballona Wetlands fresh water marsh – 9am – 2pm
Bird walk with Friends of Ballona
The Ballona Wetlands fresh water marsh is located in Playa Vista: near Lincoln Blvd & Jefferson Blvd.
South LA Wetlands – 4pm – 4:45pm
This is a chance to see how bird-friendly habitat in the heart of the urban core can support a variety of species of birds. National Park Service will attend with their mobile unit. (Bring Binoculars) South L.A. Wetlands is a 45-minute casual bird walk at South Los Angeles Wetland Park. Meet in the parking lot at E. 54th St. and Avalon Blvd., Los Angeles, 90011.
Stocker Trailhead: Bird walk – 8am – noon
Check out the new trailhead connection to Kenneth Hahn – Stocker Corridor Trail. It’s the easternmost segment of the Park to Playa Trail, a 13-mile regional trail that connects the Baldwin Hills Parklands to the Pacific Ocean. There will be a bird expert for a bird walk at 8:30am and at 10:30am and stop by the information table to learn more about nature in L.A!
The Stocker Corridor Trail parallels Stocker Street with immediate connections to Norman O. Houston Park and Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area. From the 405 southbound, take the Jefferson Boulevard exit and continue east and turn right onto West Slauson Avenue. From the 405 northbound, take the Jefferson Boulevard exit east and turn right on West Slauson Avenue. Turn left on La Cienega Boulevard, then right on Stocker Street, followed by a left onto La Brea Avenue. Parking is available at Norman O. Houston Park.
