Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson, Democratic Caucus Chair, released the following statement regarding Governor Gavin Newsom’s budget proposal:
“After reviewing the 2019-20 budget proposed by Governor Newsom, I am excited to see the state setting a foundation for improving outcomes in disadvantaged communities while continuing a track record of being financially responsible. With the expectation of a coming recession, it is critical that we continue to do both.
This budget sets $500 million to fight homelessness, $360 million for additional CalWORKS grants, $420 million in additional tax credits for young adults and seniors, and $1 billion to expand access to early childhood education.
This budget will be a strong starting point for the Legislature to develop funding priorities and continue our mission to strengthen our state and build a progressive California.”
