Arvella “Yevette” Montgomery

Los Angeles resident Arvella “Yevette” Montgomery transitioned on April 26. She was 91 years old.

A long time member and dedicated missionary at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Los Angeles, Yevette was active for many years in the Western University Memory Club – Los Angeles Branch and the Briarwood Woman’s Club in Inglewood.

A native of Kansas City, Missouri, Yevette was born on February 9, 1925 to Charles and Effie Carroll. She attended Sumner High School and Western University in the early 1940s.

Yevette united in holy wedlock to Le Chester Montgomery in 1942 and they relocated to California. They remained married until his passing in 1985.

According to her daughter, “Yevette was a good daughter, mother, sister, cousin and a friend and a blessing to many!”

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter and son and her cousin, Carrollann Rucker.

The viewing will be Sunday, May 8, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., at Inglewood Park Mortuary Chapel, 3801 Manchester Blvd., in Inglewood. Her celebration of life service will be on Monday, May 9, at 2 p.m., at Inglewood Park Mortuary Chapel.
