Actress Yvette Wilson Succumbs to Cervical Cancer
Actress Yvette Wilson, best known for her role as Andell Wilkerson on “Moesha” and “The Parkers” succumbed June 14 after a lengthy battle from cervical cancer. Multiple sources report her age as 48.
Friend Jeffery Pittle confirmed Wilson’s passing on CNN and gave a statement on the website, www.giveforward.com on June 15.
“It is with a heavy heart that I can verify that Yvette passed away last evening after a lengthy and hard battle. She was a fighter to the end, and her talent, humor and amazing friendship will be sorely missed.”
The website, set up by Pittle, was created to raise money to cover medical expenses for Wilson’s treatments. The goal is to raise $50,000 by Sept. 15 and $13,973 has been raised as of June 15. Portions of the donations will now be used to cover funeral costs.
Born in Los Angeles, Wilson began acting in the ‘90s appearing in various television shows and films. One of her first roles was portraying Lynette on the ABC sitcom “Thea” from 1993 to 1994. She appeared alongside Janet Jackson and Tupac Shakur in John Singleton’s 1993 film “Poetic Justice” and had minor roles in the films “House Party 3” and “Friday.”
Wilson’s breakout role was co-starring in the teen sitcom “Moesha,” which also starred fellow “Thea” cast mate Brandy Norwood, who portrayed the main character Moesha.
Wilson depicted the character, Andell Wilkerson from 1996 to 2000 before departing for the spinoff “The Parkers” from 2000 to 2004. Both shows were broadcasted on the now-defunct network UPN.
Wilson’s manager, Holly Carter reported to the New York Times that Wilson has recently been engaged in real estate and managed a record label.
