Metro construction activities for the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project requires a traffic reconfiguration on Crenshaw Boulevard in Hyde Park and a eastbound traffic closure on Imperial Highway on Friday, August 12, and Tuesday, August 16.
Work for the traffic reconfiguration on Crenshaw Boulevard between 60th and 67th streets will take place at 9 p.m. Friday, August 12, through 6 a.m. Saturday, August 13. Metro’s contractor Walsh/Shea Corridor Constructor (WSCC) is building a tunnel for the new light-rail in Hyde Park with the “cut and cover” method. This phase of the construction project involves placing concrete decks panels on the street so traffic can continue to use the street while excavation takes place below street level. In order to do this, WSCC needs to create a working area and the traffic reconfiguration will allow this.
During the night of the traffic reconfiguration, WSCC will keep one traffic lane open in each direction. The new traffic reconfiguration will be in place for approximately two years with two traffic lanes open in each direction.
What to Expect
- Access to emergency responders will be maintained.
- New traffic configuration will maintain two traffic lanes in each direction.
- Work area will be protected by concrete barriers in the center of Crenshaw Boulevard.
- Street parking will be prohibited in the work area.
- Left turns from Crenshaw Boulevard will be eliminated at some intersections during this traffic reconfiguration.
On Tuesday, August 16, WSCC will be pouring concrete for the future aerial structure that will connect the Crenshaw/LAX Line with the Green Line at Aviation Station. This work will require a closure of Imperial Highway for eastbound traffic between Hornet Way and Aviation Boulevard from 9 p.m. Tuesday, August 16 through 6 a.m. Wednesday, August 17, 2016. Westbound traffic on Imperial Highway is not impacted.
Eastbound detour: southbound on Douglas Street, eastbound on El Segundo Boulevard, northbound on Aviation Boulevard and eastbound on Imperial Highway.
