Kelton Hardrict Jr., a senior at Whitney High School in Cerritos, was recently surprised during an assembly with a $40,000 college scholarship in becoming a 2016 Edison Scholar. Hardrict, who plan to study mechanical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is one of 30 high school seniors to be named 2016 Edison Scholars in their pursuit of college studies in science, technology, engineering or math (STEM). Edison International, the parent company of Southern California Edison, awards the 30 scholarships annually. Edison International has awarded more than $5.3 million in scholarships to 520 students since 2006.
