Bishop Joe L. Ealy, Jurisdictional Prelate and the members of Southern California First Jurisdiction invite you to the Gala Celebration Dinner honoring Mother Barbara McCoo Lewis for 25 years as Jurisdictional Supervisor of the Department of Women and her appointment as the Assistant General Supervisor of the International Department of Women for the Church of God in Christ.

The event will be held Monday, October 14, at 6 p.m., at the Los Angeles Airport Marriott Hotel, 5855 West Century Blvd in Los Angeles. The keynote speaker is Presiding Bishop Charles E. Blake, Chief Apostle of the Church of God in Christ.

Mother Willie Mae Rivers, General Supervisor of the Department of Women, will also share celebratory expressions. The ticket cost is $100.

Twenty-five years ago, then-Jurisdictional Prelate Charles E. Blake appointed Mother Lewis as State Supervisor.  During her tenure, she has remained faithful, committed, loyal and steadfast in the work of women’s ministry.

Her track record of proven and successful leadership moved Presiding Bishop Blake to appoint her as Assistant General Supervisor of Women for the National Church of God in Christ in January 2013.

Since 1998, she has developed, implemented and launched fifty-one programs centered on the needs of women. Thousands of women have been transformed and empowered to progress in their individual gifts and talents. Mother Lewis continues to succeed as the theme of her life is:  “I Can Do All Things through Christ Which Strengthens Me (Philippians 4:13).”

Born September 18, 1943 in Los Angeles, Mother Lewis is a third generation member of the Church of God in Christ.  She married Senior Administrative Assistant Dr. James A. Lewis, Sr. in 1962 and to that union was born two sons, both ordained Elders of the Church of God in Christ, James and Jeffrey, Sr. (wife Floetta) and grandchildren Shannon and Jeffrey, Jr.

With her husband, she co-founded New Antioch Church and held the first service on February 1, 1970.  After thirty-six years, Pastor Lewis passed the baton to their youngest son, Elder Jeffrey Martin Lewis who now serves as Senior Pastor.

The achievements of Mother Lewis have resulted in several awards including the Mayor’s Certification of Appreciation for Outreach Work in Drug Rehabilitation Centers in Los Angeles, Los Angeles Sentinel Newspaper ‘Woman of the Year,’ Distinguished Educator Award from West Angeles Bible College; and the First Ladies Community Impact Award from the LA Focus Newspaper.

She serves on the national level of the Church of God in Christ as a member of the Presiding Bishop’s Senior Executive Planning Commission and in January 2013 and a member of the Board of Trustees of the C.H. Mason Theological Seminary in Atlanta, GA.

She is the cornerstone of the Department of Women’s success. She is the visionary of the Hale Morris Lewis Manor, a $4.7 million Senior Citizens Complex in Los Angeles. She is an incredible inspiration that is changing our world and church in every positive manner of achievement.
