On Saturday, March 28th, the Word of Life Christian Bookstore on West Boulevard in Los Angeles was abuzz with giddy anticipation of local author Debra Williams’ book release and signing event. Royal blue and black tablecloths adorned with accents of shimmery gold were draped over tables that held gift bags, press materials and colorful books emblazoned with the words When Praise Speaks-and that it did.
After urging from eager guests, Ms. Williams leaned into the microphone and began reading excerpts from “When Praise Speaks” with anointing, power and conviction. There were immediate crowd responses of “Amen!”, “Hallelujah!” and sprinkles of “I know that’s right!” This was followed by a question and answer session skillfully conducted by Debbie Bennett, Special Events Coordinator for Word of Life Christian Bookstore.
Ms. Williams tackled heartfelt questions from guests who hung on her every word of encouragement regarding how to propel their personal worship life into the next spiritual level. During one exhortation Ms. Williams said, “My prayer is that When Praise Speaks will help release Judah (praise) from captivity thereby leading every reader away from the mechanics of praise into an authentic praise experience that will produce true worship.”
Refreshments were served, but it was the refreshing spring of God’s word being taught through praise that quenched the thirst of every observer. Ms. Williams signed books until her fingers cramped, but she happily autographed every copy put before her. The festive mood continued throughout the hour-and-a-half event and numerous supporters scooped up multiple copies of what is sure to become a best selling book.
Ms. Williams was a member of the Gospel Music Instructional Workshop (GMIW) for 15 years where she also served on its board. She resides in her native Los Angeles where she shares her special love for and gift of Praise through song, instructional workshops, and public speaking engagements.
