“This is the highest honor I’ve ever received, and I think anybody in television for 40 years can really appreciate what this award, this honor means,” said Watts.

She continued, “What is so beautiful is it recognizes not only your contributions, but also your mentorship, and your leadership in the industry, and setting a legacy that allows others to achieve as well.”

Watts portrays “Lucille Williams” in her latest project “Mind Your Business.” When Lucille is forced to sell her lounge, her brother Henry (played by BeBe Winans) recruits his son Alfonso (played by Columbus short), and Alfonso’s fraternal twin sister Aaliyah (played by Drew Sidora) to help keep the family business.

Watts believes that while “Mind Your Business” is a sitcom it also underscores some very serious topics.

“We have jokes, trust and believe,” said Watts. “But at the same time, we’re dealing with very poignant issues that we’re facing in our community.”

In its first season, “Mind Your Business” has covered hot topics like the teaching of Black history in schools and border war immigrants.

“We’re really dealing with some really great issues,” said Watts. “I love when our comedy show takes a deep dive, and you’re crying or clutching your heart dealing with real family issues.”

The Williams family also have their own internal struggles most commonly surrounding their family business. Watts said the family must come together, put aside their issues, so they can successfully work together.

Bentley Kyle Evans is the executive producer of “Mind Your Business.” Evans is famously known for his work on the sitcoms “Martin” and “The Jamie Foxx Show.” He personally called Watts to invite her to work on the project.

“This is the fifth character I’ve done for Bentley Evans,” stated Watts. “When Bentley calls you answer the phone and you do it.”

Watts said the production executives had their doubts if a “talk show host” could pull off “Lucille,” but Watts knew she was meant to play the character.

“I did what I had to do like any actor – I fought like hell in that audition, and got the role,” said Watts. “We always say, ‘If it’s for you, it is for you.’”

“Mind Your Business” is currently streaming on Bounce TV.
