The streaking hot Dodgers went off for four runs and won 5-3 over the Atlanta Braves on Monday night. Holding the second best record in the major leagues, the Dodgers are 11 games ahead of the Braves.
Max Muncy knocked a homer (29th) in the first inning against Braves Pitcher Drew Smyly followed by Will Smith, to make it 2-0 in the second inning. Smith said, “It was good to get off on that lead.”
Superstar Mookie Betts led off the third with a homer, his 18th of the year, and Corey Seager followed a few batters later with a two-run hit to make the score 5-0. The Dodgers game Smyly problems all night long.
Julio Urias gave up two runs in the sixth inning despite having a great showing. Jorge and Freeman hit back to back home runs. Urias was dominant, kept his pitch count low while retiring 12 batters overall. He became the first pitcher to reach 15 wins in the majors this season.
After the game, Urias said, “I felt good. All three pitches were working early on and I felt good all the way through. I went as hard as I could for as long as I could.”
Manager Dave Roberts was impressed with Urias’s performance. He said, “Urias gave us what we needed. He was fantastic. Coming off the IL, he just picked up where he left off, his last start and then this start. I thought he held his stuff, made good pitches.
According to Roberts, Urias will be good to play against the Giants.
Blake Treinen finished the game with a strikeout, and fly out.
