South LA parks are fully staffed throughout the summer and offering organized activities, so our kids can have endless fun! Get them out of the house and outdoors, so they burn off some energy by participating in physical activities or arts and crafts each week at District Eight parks: Denker Park, Mount Carmel, Saint Andrews Park, Harvard Park, MLK Park, Algin Sutton, and Van Ness Recreation Center. You can learn more about summer activities and swim lessons by going to this website: https://www.laparks.org/online-activity-registration.

LA is a movie town, and we’re giving families and friends a reason to visit parks for a free and safe Movie Night every Friday night, and we hope to encourage future visits. Meet us on the baseball field; movies begin at dusk. Due to COVID-19, you must pre-register for the events here: https://mhdcd8.com/calendar/.

Marqueece Harris Dawson

Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson partnered with Los Angeles City Recreation Parks to open two new pools at Algin Sutton and Van Ness Recreation Center, so South LA friends and families can get a break from the heat and enjoy the outdoors. The swimming pools were a promise made at the beginning of his term, and a promise kept. This is an investment in rebuilding connections between neighbors, friends, and families. Well-attended community activity supports appropriate after-hours park use and allows residents to feel safe in their local park.

Summer Family Nights Outdoor Movie Experience is presented by Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson, Project Pit, Brotherhood Crusade, and the Department of Recreation and Parks.
