2017 General Municipal Election

City Clerk Holly L. Wolcott reminds eligible residents they must register to vote by Monday, May 1, 2017, in order to be able to vote in the May 16, 2017 General Municipal Election. To be eligible to vote, you must be a citizen of the United States, be 18 years old by Election Day, not in prison or on parole for a felony, and reside in the City of Los Angeles. Registered voters who have moved or changed their names since the last election must re-register to vote.

Voter registration is handled by the California Secretary of State. You can register to vote through the following sources:

  • Complete your registration online at: ca.gov.
  • Register in person at the Office of the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk (RR/CC), 12400 Imperial Highway, Norwalk, CA
  • Voter registration forms may also be available at the public counter of most Los Angeles City and County buildings, libraries, fire stations, post offices, and Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)

To locate your polling place and to view the Official Sample Ballot for the May 16, 2017 General Municipal Election (available in English and 12 Federally and City-mandated languages including Armenian, Chinese, Farsi, Hindi, Japanese, Khmer, Korean, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog, Thai, and Vietnamese) visit the Los Angeles County RR/CC website at: lavote.net/LOCATOR.

The Office of the City Clerk administers elections for the City of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), and the Los Angeles Community College District. The City’s next regularly scheduled General Municipal Election (runoff) will be May 16, 2017 (for Los Angeles City Council and LAUSD races).
