Please join me Tuesday, September 6th at 7:00 p.m. for a telephonic town hall regarding the spread of the Zika virus in California.According to the California Department of Public Health, as of August 26, 2016, there have been 189 travel-associated Zika virus infections in California. The Zika virus represents a
growing concern among public health officials, especially for
pregnant women, because it is known to cause fetal microcephaly (abnormally small head and brain) and other poor pregnancy outcomes. Additionally, there is an association between Zika and Guillain-Barré Syndrome, a disease affecting the nervous system.
This call will provide information regarding:
- The origin of Zika and how it is spread
- How to protect yourself and loved ones from contracting the virus
- Efforts the state, county, and local agencies are taking to educate the public and prevent the spread of Zika.
