Recording artist and actress Darlene Love will be the special guest on Sunday, February 20, at 10 a.m., at The Word Center Church of Los Angeles. The church meets at the South Los Angeles Sports Activity Center located at 7020 S. Figueroa Street.
“Everyone is welcome to join us as Darlene ministers in song during our worship service,” said Pastors Alan and T. Marvene Wright.
Love, the sister of Pastor Alan Wright, will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 14 in recognition of her recording career in the 1960s as lead singer of The Blossoms and lead vocalist for the Crystals, Bob B. Soxx and The Blue Jeans. She also had several popular singles including “(Today I Met) The Boy I’m Gonna Marry,” “Wait Till My Bobby Gets Home,” “A Fine, Fine Boy,” and “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).”
Also well-known in the Lethal Weapon movies as the wife of Danny Glover, Love recently released her first live CD/DVD called “The Concert of Love” from her appearance at the Bergen Performing Arts Center.
Love and her brother are the children of the late Bishop Joseph W. Wright, Sr. who presided over the state of California for The Churches of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith, Inc. A resident of New York City, she is married to Alton Allison and the mother of Marcus Peete, Chawn Peete and Jason Mitchell.
