Faith Community Fellowship (FCF) will host a free workshop, ‘How to Develop and Maintain an Effective Prayer Life,’ to assist believers in improving their time with God.

The seminar is set for Saturday, June 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3901 West Adams Boulevard in Los Angeles. The Reverend Kenneth Smith, host pastor, has invited Sister Verlene Farmer-Goatley, a veteran missionary, to present relevant teaching from the Bible on prayer and how to use this effective spiritual weapon to overcome life’s adversity and trials.

Sister Farmer-Goatley knows first-hand the power of prayer. After serving seven years as a foreign missionary teacher at the Suehn Mission in Monrovia, Liberia in West Africa, she became seriously ill and was sent home to die.

After she recovered, she was appointed the Baptist Student Union Director and instructor of Religion/Bible at Langston University in Oklahoma by the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention and the Oklahoma Baptist State Convention. She served for 26 years in this position.

For 20 years, Sister Farmer-Goatley taught two prayer seminars to college students at the National Baptist Student Union Retreat each spring. Sister Farmer-Goatley was a faculty member of the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education, NBC, U.S.A., Inc., where she taught the Prayer Seminar Course in the General Division for 16 years

She attended the Carver School of Missions and Social Work at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. Farmer-Goatley earned a B.R.E degree and a B.A. degree in Sociology at Langston University. Also, she received her M.R.E. degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Continental breakfast and lunch will be served. Registration is required by June 5. Seating is limited. To register, email or call (323) 932-0054.
