Scripture: Luke 6:27 – “But I tell you who hear me:  Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.”

Can you imagine how our Lord and Savior felt knowing that Judas would betray Him?  Jesus loved Judas and treated Judas the same as He treated all His disciples.

We must follow Jesus’ example.  Our real enemy is not the person attacking us, but it is Satan who wants to destroy us.

In the book, “A Woman’s Guide to Spiritual Warfare,” Ruthanne Warlock tells the story of the Mayan Indians who were known to be brave, fierce warriors.  But the Spanish soldiers had a distinct advantage because they wore armor and they had horses and guns.  Horses were unknown in the Western Hemisphere at that time.

So, when the Indians saw a horse with an armored soldier attached, they thought it was all one creature.  They aimed at the horse, not realizing that the real enemy was the soldier on top of the horse.

The Indians were defeated because they failed to recognize the real enemy riding on the horse’s back and that’s what happens to countless Christians.  We shoot at one another instead of fighting the devil.

What’s love got to do with it?  It has everything to do with it.  We must be obedient to God’s command to love even our enemies realizing that our enemy is not the person who may be attacking us, but it is Satan.

Put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18) and love those who have wronged you.  Do good to those that show hatred toward you.  Bless someone who may have cursed you with hateful words and most of all pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and request for those who mistreat you.

God it is my desire to obey your commandment to love my enemies and do good to those who hate me.  Holy Spirit, I ask that today and forevermore that you will remind me that my enemy is not the person attacking me, but it is Satan.

Help me to fight the devil with love.  I will live by your Word in Romans 12:21-22, “If my enemy is hungry, I will feed him; if he is thirsty, I will give him something to drink.  In doing this, I will heap burning coals on his head.  I will not be overcome by evil, but I will overcome evil with good.”

In Jesus’ name.  Amen
