City Council President Herb Wesson recently hosted his 7th Annual “Sweethearts Luncheon” at Pips Restaurant on La Brea Ave.  The council president hosts the special luncheon as a way to say “thank you” to the group of women who volunteer their time and energy to the many 10th Council District community service programs, he said.  These programs include the annual free summer “Movies in the Park” in various parks in the 10th District, “Operation Gobble” and the “Winter Wonderland” for at-risk kids and families in need during the holiday season.

“Our community owes a debt of gratitude to these outstanding women who contribute so generously to making our community service programs such a great success,” said Wesson.  “Their efforts continue to make an important difference.”

The original group of volunteers was organized by Wesson’s late mother Gladys in 2005, and the group continues to grow each year.
